My deepest condolences to Joan's family. She was a wonderful cheerful friend to me and a strong supporter of the local jazz scene attending the Spring-Summer Jazz series without fail as presented by the Southampotn Jazz Club. I enjoyed speaking with Joan about music and in particular the jazz shows she would attend at the Rex in Toronto. It was an honour for our trio to perform for her 90th birthday party in Southampton last summer and meet her wonderful loving family. She will be missed.

I loved when Joan stopped to chat as she passed our family home and my garden when she was in Southampton. She was an old friend of my Dad's and told the best stories about the parties from when they were growing up - one particular one about my Dad spilling red wine on a beautiful white sofa at the Fitton House is one that was repeated often. Joan came to my Dad's celebration of life at the Fire Hall in Southampton three years ago - arriving first and being one of the last to leave - with a beer in her glass she sat and told stories about growing up in Southampton in the 30,s,40, and 50's for a few hours. It was so lovely. She will be missed by many of us here. But what a life she lived - I am grateful she included me in it a few times. Diane Huber, Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor and Doug's daughter. Our Saturday jazz matinees were always extra special when loyal Joan was with us, in her favourite seat, for so many years. It's never the same without her. Her smile is always so jolly and welcoming. Upon hearing of her passing, we all heard The Hot Five Jazzmakers dedicating "Autumn Leaves" to Joan, on May 23, 2026.

I had the privilege of working daily with Joan as a young Internist with an interest in women with Diabetes and pregnancy-in fact this was the 1st such program in Ontario.
